Silver is a powerful antibiotic because it acts as a catalyst, disabling the particular enzyme that many bacteria, fungus and viruses use for their metabolism. The disease causing organisms either starve or suffocate, for many others their internal protoplast collapse if their bodily charge is opposite to the silver particles, and still others are unable to reproduce themselves. Yet silver particles, if small enough, do not harm the human or animal host.

Though a colloid of silver is inorganic and vitamin A is organic, there are similarities between them. True colloids of silver contain an electrically charged trace element of silver particles that remain suspended in a solution indefinitely. Colloids of silver that require a "stabiliser" indicate that the particles are too big and the charge cannot maintain the silver in a dispersed state. In true colloids, the charge keeps the particles evenly distributed and they do not settle out. Why? Because the particles of a true colloid of silver (1-100 billionth of a meter in size) are small enough not to be affected by gravity. Like vitamin A, if a person ingests more than is necessary, the excess silver is shunted out of the body through the mechanism of metal enzymes. You cannot overdose on a true colloid of silver.
